Dairy operators today face unrelenting demands on their time. Milking, balancing rations, waste-management,
the challenges never end. Truth is, unless a dairyman is highly organized, there's just not enough time to
get everything done. That's where a Lester freestall building can help. Designed to meet each individual
dairyman's needs, it can help you ease your daily routine, and become more efficient.

The twenty-four hour-a-day, full time use of your dairy freestall facility calls for a building designed to tough
quality standards. Today's larger, open freestall buildings require engineering and critical attention to the
buildings' structural integrity. Lester Building Systems starts each project with an engineered design, then
carefully manufactures the building components using the highest quality materials. The result? A Lester®
building that provides an excellent value for the protection of your herd.
Adjustable curtain sidewalls work in tandem with various ridge designs to create a natural, fresh air flow through
the building. This helps create a healthy environment for your herd year round. Cows stay cooler during the summer
months and comfortably protected during the colder times of the year.

If new milking parlor and holding area are part of your freestall plan, your local Lester Builder can help assure
that this area is easily accessible for both cows and workers. In the parlor, glass-lined walls are impact
resistant and clean up quickly. Holding pens may be conveniently located along return lanes from the parlor for
cows that require extra attention or as calving areas.

Roomy center aisles easily accommodate mobile mixer wagons or feed trucks. Time spent feeding is minimized, while
maintaining group feeding options. Cows can easily get to feed and water throughout the day, helping contribute to
milk production levels.

Today's larger dairies require sharp management. From employee records to cow records, an effective office area
can help make managing the business easier. Employee break rooms, rest rooms, and showers are easily included in
your design if desired.
|
Your Lester freestall building can be designed to incorporate a waste handling method that works best for you.
Options include scrape or flush systems and slatted floors with various holding pit or lagoon configurations.
|
|
Your local independent Lester Builder has the expertise to assist with other farm structures commonly used on the
dairy farm. A commodity feed building, dry cow barn, or replacement heifer housing can be integrated into your
dairy complex, now or planned for at a later date. Your Lester Builder is eager to work with you as needed to plan
and design these buildings.

IMPORTANT: Planning and good management are necessary for a proper environment for both animals and
workers. Adequate and operational ventilation and waste handling systems are required for proper air and moisture
balance to avoid a build up of moisture, condensation, noxious gasses and dust. Without good management of these
systems, damage to the building and contents and injury to people and animals can occur. Contingency plans for
power outages, vandalism, and equipment malfunction must also be considered. For specific information and advise
on these and other building design issues, contact your local Extension Service or the Midwest Plan Service.
